Majority of Brits 'happy with their home'

The majority of people who live in the UK are happy with the house they currently own, as well as its location, a new survey has shown. According to the study, as many as 80 per cent of those who own a home said this is the case.

The data shows that nationwide, 37 per cent say they are extremely satisfied with both the house and the area they live in at the moment, while 43 per cent said they are moderately satisfied. This means that overall, eight in ten people are happy with where they currently live.

On the flipside, only a very small number, four per cent, said they are in some way dissatisfied with where they live at the moment, whether that’s with the property they own or the area it happens to be located in.

It was also discovered that people who live in the countryside are far more likely to be happy with their living arrangements than those who live in a city. The data shows that 74 per cent of people in cities are satisfied, compared to 80 per cent of those who live in suburban areas, and 84 per cent of those who live in a rural town or village.

Interestingly, it would also appear that people get happier with where they live the older they are as well. Whether it’s down to moving up the ladder and being able to find their dream home, or just a result of being happier settling down, 91 per cent of over 65s said they were satisfied, compared to just 73 per cent of those aged between 18 and 24.

The home itself also has a big part to play in how happy people are to live there. Some 70 per cent of those surveyed said they were pleased with the layout, number of bedrooms and parking associated with the house they live in at the moment.
